5 Haute Places to Celebrate Cinco de Mayo
The Mexican specialty isn’t hard to come by in Los Angeles—especially in a city where tableside ceviche or crab tostadas upstage the guacamole. However, all bets are off when it comes to Cinco de Mayo specials. Luckily, the holiday falls on a Sunday this year, which means you have the entire day to hop from muy loco event to the next. Here are our haute picks for the best places to celebrate Cinco de Mayo weekend.
Windows Lounge at Four Seasons LA
300 S. Doheny Dr.
You don’t need to wait until Sunday to get a jumpstart on celebrating, as the Windows Lounge inside the Four Seasons hotel is offering a fun a la carte menu on both Saturday and Sunday. Dunganess crab tostadas, Mexican style shrimp cocktails and churros served with Mexican chocolate are just a few of its festive offerings.
Red O
8155 Melrose Ave.
Fiesta festivities kick off tonight and will last throughout the weekend at chef Rick Bayless’ chic modern Mexican-Californian oasis style restaurant on the Melrose strip. The street food social hour from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. tonight and 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. tomorrow will include a Niman Ranch pork belly sope, slow-cooked duck taquito, and fresh corn and goat cheese tamale. Dinner service will be set to live entertainment and new specialty spring cocktails from mixologist Steve Calabro. Saturday and Sunday brunch offerings will include live guitarists, and a Bloody Maria and Michelada bars.
Hollywood Roosevelt
7000 Hollywood Blvd.
With a sunny forecast for the weekend, Cinco de Mayo at the Hollywood Roosevelt calls for a poolside celebration at its Tropicana Bar, where DJ Mayer Hawthorne and DJ Cut Snake will be spinning, along with a special surprise guest. Peligroso Tequila will be serving up their new Peligroso Cinnamon, as well as their other premium tequila, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The new flavor is the world’s first 84-proof cinnamon-flavored tequila.
SHOREbar
112 W. Channel Rd.
That $3 sombrero you thought would never be of any use is suddenly your lucky charm this weekend, as this beachside post will be giving free shots to anyone who wears a sombrero on Sunday. Drink specials will be flowing all day and night set to the beats of DJ Bobby French and Beefowl.
Lure
1439 Ivar Ave.
Lure will be hosting the only day party for 10 straight hours. Doors open at 2pm and will last until midnight, and ladies are free before 4pm on the guestlist.
