Casual Goes Chic at Thursday’s Night Market

Dining out is quite fashionable, but the way in which we do so has changes a lot over the past few years. We still appreciate a good bottle of Bordeaux or a melt-in-your-mouth slice of (humanely and sustainably raised, of course) foie gras, but we foodies are getting back to our roots. Salvaged church benches for seating, roasted root vegetables from the farm down the road and simple preparations that let the ingredients shine. Ready to rough it up a little more? Join the Philly food truck craze and get some of the city’s best bites curbside. This Thursday evening, you’ll have the perfect opportunity to taste test the top trucks at the first Night Market.
Night Market is the brain child of the food-friendly folks at The Food Trust (they run a little thing called the Headhouse Farmers’ Market) and is a celebration of this city’s mobile chefs. A street food bazaar, the trucks will line the intersection of Passyunk Avenue and Tasker Avenue and allow guests to travel around the world via tacos, arancini, ceviche and dumplings. And, of course, good ol’ American cupcakes. Popular vendors scheduled to join the party include Jose Garces’ Guapos Tacos, Tyson Bees, Maru Global and Sugar Philly.
Live music will add atmosphere to this outdoor food fest, allowing visitors to build a custom meal and dine under the stars. So pick out your favorites from the chrome-plated kitchens, find a stack of napkins and pick out a cozy curb. Dining al fresco has never been so trendy.
Night Market will run from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on October 7. For more information, visit www.nightmarketphilly.com.
