I’m not typically the trendy type, but if there is one current fashion I can heartily endorse, it’s the slow cocktail movement—a.k.a mixology. Not too long ago, it seemed the only places Angelenos could find a reliable martini was at the Polo Lounge or Musso & Frank’s. Now, bartenders everywhere have caught the bug and understand the value of premium spirits mixed with fresh ingredients to order, making imbibing yet another exquisite culinary experience.
In the process of researching LA’s best bartending, I came upon this event tonight that’s a great way to get up to speed in style. Those who enjoy the grape know The Wine House, one of the West Side’s best retailers of wine, and one of the few places with an Enotech—an automated tasting system for simple sampling (theirs offers 32 selections).
The Wine House (no relation to Amy) doesn’t just sell, they offer an impressive level of education on wine, beer and spirits alike, including WSET certification classes. For those of us just interested in improving personal knowledge, upcoming casual classes include ones on Italian wines (June 17), German wines (June 19), and tequilas (July 18). Their second floor restaurant Upstairs 2, also offers themed wine dinners every Wednesday, prepared by Chef Todd Barrie.
But tonight until 10 PM, up on their rooftop patio, the Wine House is sporting spirits, made with some of the hottest brands such as St. Germain elderflower liqueur, Aviation gin, Macallan whiskey, Rum Barbancourt and more. With Wine House’s well known dedication to detail, you can be sure this event will be something special. Food and live music are included in the $75 offering.
The Wine House is located at 2311 Cotner Avenue (310) 479-3731
