What MADE Him Haute: Rice is the No. 1 wide receiver in NFL history. During his career, he won three Super Bowls, was elected to the Pro Bowl 13 times, and will soon be inducted in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He’s got some moves off the field too, which he proved during his stint on ABC’s hit show, Dancing with the Stars. He recently put his family home in Atherton on the market (a different article in this edition profiles the property). His 127 Foundation, designed to support various children’s programs in the Bay Area, was re-launched in 2009.
What Makes Him Haute Now: In August, Jerry Rice will be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, which many would consider the sport’s greatest honor. Yet his hometown team, the San Francisco 49ers, had yet to induct him into their personal Hall of Fame. Rice, the all-time leading receiver with 22,895 yards, played his first 16 NFL seasons with the 49ers and won three Super Bowl rings for the team. It’s high time he be honored, and the 49ers apparently agreed. Today, the team announced that this September, Rice will join Edward J. DeBartolo 49ers Hall of Fame. He will receive the honor during halftime of the 49ers’ home opener against the New Orleans Saints at Candlestick Park.
