Slumdog Director Buys in Chelsea
This week Danny Boyle, the director of the highly acclaimed film “Slumdog Millionaire,” bought a new residence in New York. His first home in the big city was purchased for a reported $1.7 million. Although, don’t expect to run into Doyle just yet, the home is intended for his youngest daughter, Caitlin. Caitlin, a freshman at Parsons the New School for Design, reportedly recommended actor Dev Patel to Doyle as the lead role for the movie that catapulted the young actor to stardom. So I guess this is daddy’s way of saying thank you?
Caitlin will get to study in a pretty sweet home that comes complete with a rooftop solarium and terrace. The 19th century townhouse is located on West 19th Street between 8th and 9th avenues, and that is all the information shared. After all, it is his daughter we are talking about; give the kid her privacy and safety. In any case Doyle got a pretty good deal on the home. Back in April of 2009, the two-bedroom, three-bathroom penthouse was on the market for $2.05 million. Brown Harris Stevens broker Robin Lyon-Gardiner and Erin Aries had listed this as the original price then dropped it down to $1.895 million only two months later.
According to Danny Messing, Senior Vice President of the Excalibur Group’s new residential sales division, “[Boyle] felt that since he was paying all cash, he should at least get a 10 percent discount.” A businessman as well, I am sure Caitlin will enjoy studying and entertaining friends in her new home.
