In the capital dinner time is when you say it is, and sometimes you might just fancy dinner for breakfast, just ‘cos you can. Here’s the best places to grab that unorthodox bite before heading back to your abode…or office.

1 Duck and Waffle

There's no better place to watch the sunrise than this magnificent restaurant which holds court on the 40th floor of the Heron Tower. This 24 hour spot tirelessly dishes out fab cuisine and panoramic views. Order their signature crispy confit duck served on a perfectly fluffy waffle. If you’re still running on party spirit the cocktail menu is incredible, opt for something with coffee in it and keep going - cue Lionel Richie’s All Night Long.

2 Brick Lane Beigel Bake

Another 24 hour entry, these guys are no newbies and have been around since World War II. Seventy years on, it’s still going strong. Don’t expect anything fancy, they won’t even cut your bagel for you and definitely won’t apologise for it either. The queue for this East London Brick Lane spot is frequently around the block - even at 4am. Opt for the signature salt beef bagel, generously stuffed with beef, pickles and mustard (likely to be smearing your face due to enthusiasm) to kill those night-out hunger pangs. For under £4, there's no better meal in the city.

3 Pizza East

This Shoreditch hipster pizza spot is the closest you’ll get to the grab-and-go NYC vibe. The interior is busy and informal, you can eat at the bar facing the stone pizza ovens and watch your meal get made, or you can take a table amongst distressed furnishings and men with carefully crafted mustaches. Soho House Group’s Pizza East is open till midnight, so if you turn up straight from work , like most of their clientele, you could be in for a rough morning.

4 MEATLiquor

This deliberately grungy and dimly lit burger joint serves up late night grub until 2am on weekends. The dead hippy burger is a personal favourite. Get your competitive friends tipsy and talk them into trying out the ‘Triple Chili Challenge’, consisting of a jalapeno cheeseburger, jalapeno chili dog and chili cheese fries. Consume all three and your meal is free. Good luck!

5 Maroush

The late night kebab is synonymous with a solid night out in London and Edgware road is the place to be. Maroush is known for its consistently delicious and generously sized kebabs and other Lebanese dishes. Open until 5am on weekends, the menu is vast but there's only one choice for the all-nighter and that’s the shawarma wrap. Haute tip: Take the opportunity to rehydrate with their signature fresh carrot juice- you’ll thank us later.
