The summer season is nearly upon us and if your calendar is filling up with weddings, bridal showers, pool parties, croquet tournaments and garden luncheons, you’re going to need a reliable and excellent blow dry bar to ensure that your coiffure is always on point. Heading to the salon for a blowout is one of our most preferred pastimes because a woman always feels beautiful and confident after having her hair perfectly styled. Plus, not having to worry about styling your own hair is one of life’s little luxuries. Wondering where you’ll get the prettiest do that will hold for days at a time? Here are the premier blow dry bars in the Bay Area.

1 Bloom Blow Dry Bar

Although its West Portal location isn’t ideal, Bloom is hands down the best blow dry bar in San Francisco. Walk through the doors into the stylish well-lit space and you instantly feel relaxed. Everything about Bloom oozes serenity and chicness. To ensure that her clients have the best experience and don’t leave with a kink in their neck from being uncomfortable during a shampoo, owner Dawn Hahn imported the washing bowls from Europe. To cut back on paper waste, each chair has its own iPad stocked with an assortment of digital magazines. Hair products are Unite, a line that is vegan and free of sulfates, sodium chloride, DEA, MEA and parabens. The friendly receptionist whips up perfectly frothy cappuccinos and piping hot cups of organic tea for you to sip on during your treatment. Ask for Ricardo, Bloom’s head stylist, and you’ll leave with a beautiful style that will last for the next four days. Also note that Bloom has just launched makeup services and offers freezable subscriptions for those months when you’re in need of more than one blowout.

2 Blowology

A beauty oasis in the heart of downtown San Francisco, Blowloogy is an intimate spot—with only three chairs—but it’s still relatively easy to book a same-day appointment. Owner Suzie Dominguez is an expert stylist who will give you the best head massage of your life during the Pureology-shampoo wash. The space is decorated with eye-catching accents like a large amethyst crystal and blooming orchids—classic Latin music plays softly in the background. If your hair is damaged, indulge in a blowout therapy that includes a tea tree scalp detox, acai deep conditioning masque, and super rich intensive moisture treatment. The salon’s motto is “we touch more hearts than hair,” and this is apparent in Dominguez’s sweet nurturing nature and commitment to customer service. Dominguez’s sidekick, Yvette, is a skilled makeup artist, so if you’re in need of hair and makeup, Blowology is the ideal spot.

3 Drybar

Alli Webb’s blowout chain is an incredibly reliable spot for a blowout. There are two Drybars in San Francisco: one downtown on Grant Street and another in Pacific Heights on Fillmore Street. The airy spaces are decorated with the brand’s signature grey, white, and buttercup yellow color scheme. Hair style options are named after cocktails: the Mai Tai is luxurious beach waves, while the Manhattan is a sleek and straight do. Instead of watching the stylist do your hair in a mirror, clients watch romantic comedies that play muted (but with closed captions) on flat screen televisions; part of the experience is the blowout reveal when the stylist turns your chair around to the mirror and you see your new hairdo. Drybar makes its own line of brilliantly named hair products, including our personal favorite Gold Mine, a shimmering leave-in conditioner that smells divine. Both salons are almost always packed, so be sure to book your blowout a week in advance.

4 Bounce

Over in the East Bay, fashionable women head to Bounce for their blow dry needs. There are two locations: one in Berkeley near 4th Street and another in Oakland on Lakeshore Avenue. All of Bounce’s stylists are trained to handle every type of hair, including more difficult curly tresses. The decor is eclectic—there’s colorful brightly-printed couches, ballon globe lighting, and wood floors. The stylists sport interesting hair styles and hair colors and lively R&B music plays loudly in the background. All products are Kerastase and blowouts bundles are available for those who want frequent blowouts.

5 Style Bar

The North Bay’s leading blowouts are offered at Style Bar. Marin’s elegant mothers flock to the Greenbrae location, but if you’re headed to a wedding in wine country, you’ll want to book your appointment at the Petaluma location. Style bar is decorated with a sleek white color scheme and pops of bright orange accents. Products are by Kerastase, Youngblood, Zoya, Smith & Cult, and OPI. The Petaluma salon also has full nail care services, so you can get your hair and nails done at the same time.
