During the colder months of the year, including the months of November through March, people are usually dressed in heavier or layered clothing that covers more skin. Procedures of the body like liposuction and abdominoplasty, which require wearing a layer of compression garments for extended periods, are better tolerated when their recoveries occur during cooler/colder weather. Likewise, treatments like laser resurfacing or deep chemical peels of the face are best done during colder months when the sunlight is less intense on exposed sensitive skin.

HB: What are the patients' concerns when it comes to the body entering Fall/Winter?

Most of the major end-of-year holidays are celebrated in the fall and winter. Patients usually plan body surgeries early enough to be able to enjoy these holidays or postpone them until after the holidays. On the opposite end are people who prefer to use their extended time off from work during the holidays to have surgery and use the time off for the recovery.

The most requested body treatments are liposuction, abdominoplasty, Brazilian butt lifts, and aesthetic breast surgeries like breast augmentation, breast lift, breast reduction, and combination breast procedures.

HB: How do they work?

All of the surgeries listed previously require anywhere from a few days to several weeks of recovery. They usually are performed under general anesthesia in an operating room setting. Compression garments after breast and body contouring surgeries are worn usually for about six weeks. Good candidates for these surgeries are people in good health or with health issues that are very well controlled. Close follow-up is very important during the first few weeks after surgery.

HB: What is the cost?

The costs vary according to the surgeries performed. Breast augmentation and liposuction of a single area may cost as low as $4,000-$5,000. More extensive surgical combinations like “Mommy Makeovers,” including anesthesia and facility fees, are in the $18,000 to $25,000 range.
