Haute Beauty: What are the nonsurgical alternatives to BBL?
Dr. Moises Salama: Naturally thin or physically fit patients who do not have enough fat for a BBL or patients who do not want to undergo surgical buttock augmentation can opt for non-surgical buttock enhancement with injectable fillers such as Sculptra. Sculptra injections increase the volume, size, and shape of the buttocks using the biocompatible synthetic substance poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), which stimulates collagen production. In addition, Sculptra can improve the texture of the skin including cellulite dimples, and it has a proven track record for safety as it is easily absorbed by the body.
HB: Will the patient achieve the same results?
MS: Patients will achieve natural and subtle yet impactful results. They will not achieve a dramatic projection that can be only be achieved with a BBL.
HB: What does recovery look like?
MS: Since there is no surgery involved with Sculptra injections, there is minimal downtime. There is also little aftercare required after. Patients may experience soreness and bruising at the injection site for a couple of days and should avoid exercise or strenuous activity for a day or two. It is recommended that patients massage their buttocks for 5 days, 5 times a day for 5 minutes to help distribute the Sculptra product and prevent collagen lumps.
HB: How long do the results last?
MS: Results generally last 2 to 3 years and can sometimes last even longer for up to 5 years.
HB: What should patients avoid in order to maintain their new look?
MS: There is nothing really to avoid to maintain the new look; however, as mentioned, massage is recommended to avoid the formation of bumps due to product accumulation.
