The Metropolitan Opera hosted the gala premiere of the Met's first-ever showing of Armida at the Lincoln Center on April 12. The exciting and entertaining production provided viewers with an incredible visual display as Renee Flemming plays the lead role of Rossini's sorceress. Tony Award winning director, Mary Zimmerman utilized her renowned theatrical experience to create a sensational spectacle.

Haute Highlights: Made in Tribeca
The March/April edition of Haute Living New York may be themed around the music industry this year, but in 2009, we focused the edition around the power players who were making moves in New York’s film industry. The cover of the edition featured Spike Lee, but today, I want to point your attention to our One on One profile of Jane Rosenthal, co-founder of the Tribeca Film Festival. The 9th annual event will kick off in seven short days with the premiere of Shrek Ever After, the first 3-D film at the festival.

In late March, I introduced you to painter Vincent Giarrano, as he worked on his one-man show, which centered around affluent women embracing the luxury lifestyle on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. On April 8th, New York City hotel, The Pierre hosted the 65th annual Boys' Towns of Italy "Ball of the Year" Gala. The Grand Ballroom of the prestigious and premier hotel, was filled with countless prominent names that included performer Lainie Kazan, philanthropist Francesca Braschi Gumina, senior vice president of the Conair corporation Lee Rizzuto Jr., textile industrialist Anthony Maltese, and VIP Mark Simone, the WABC radio host and emcee of the evening.

Aqualillies Whets Your Appetite for Old Hollywood
While surveying a poolside party scene one night, choreographer Mesha Kussman got the inspiration for Aqualillies, a synchronized swimming performance group with the playful flair of old Hollywood. Kussman, who hails from New York City’s downtown theatre scene (she studied experimental theatre and conceptualized dance), recognized that L.A. was more of an event-sitting audience (think fashion shows and red carpet) and that the pool was an opportunity for a different take on entertainment.
