When greed meets in the middle of the road with fear, more often than not, disaster will strike, which could quite possibly be the case for some with ties to both the Big Apple and the Magic City.

Q&A with Artist Vincent Giarrano

In late March, I introduced you to painter Vincent Giarrano, as he worked on his one-man show, which centered around affluent women embracing the luxury lifestyle on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. Today we are going one step deeper and delving inside Giarrano’s creative mind for a special Q&A that he agreed to.

Keeping Up with Miami’s Culinary Scene

If you’ve been living in Miami for the season, and paying the least bit of attention, then it will not be shocking news that we have been on a quest to elevate our culinary scene to be worthy of national attention. Perhaps 2010 has been our most successful year yet in this mission. At the start of the year, non-beach restaurants earned mentions in the New York Times travel section. We followed that up by welcoming the Food Network and Lee Brian Schrager’s South Beach Wine & Food Festival, an event that has become so popular that NYC decided to follow in our footsteps with their own version of the same idea.

Aqualillies Whets Your Appetite for Old Hollywood

While surveying a poolside party scene one night, choreographer Mesha Kussman got the inspiration for Aqualillies, a synchronized swimming performance group with the playful flair of old Hollywood. Kussman, who hails from New York City’s downtown theatre scene (she studied experimental theatre and conceptualized dance), recognized that L.A. was more of an event-sitting audience (think fashion shows and red carpet) and that the pool was an opportunity for a different take on entertainment.
