Chicagos Best Patios and Rooftops to See and Be Seen

With record breaking temps and sunshine to boot, April showers don’t seem to be anywhere in sight. And antsy from hibernating all winter, you’re surely looking for a great spot to people watch and enjoy a refreshment outdoors. If we know one thing about Chicago, it’s that good weather doesn’t last. So enjoy it while you can, here are some of the Chi’s hautest patios and rooftops.

Market

Market combines superior service and quality with the casual vibe and high energy of a neighborhood hotspot. With a beer garden, sidewalk cafe, and rooftop deck, it is sure to be hopping this summer. Refreshing drink favorites include the Darryl Strawberry made with Stoli Strasberi, fresh strawberries, lime wedge and sugar; the Southern Saint, with Jeremiah Weed sweet tea vodka with fresh lemonade; and Grape Kool Aid, using Three Olives Grape Vodka, sour mix, Diet Sprite, and cranberry juice.

Market is located at 1113 W. Randoph.

Bull and Bear

Notable see and be seen spot, Bull & Bear’s new umbrella-covered sidewalk patio stretches the length of the bar on both Hubbard Street and Wells. Although you don’t get the signature in-table taps that you do inside, there is no better location for people watching or the “vantage point” as they call it.

Bull and Bear is located at 431 N. Wells.

Zed 451

The all-you-can-eat Brazilian steakhouse’s seasonal lux second-floor rooftop is now open. Featuring a bar, lounge seating, and heat lamps, there’s a glass-roof clerestory so you can watch all the goings-on below. With wood benches and stone fireplaces, Zed sets a scene of ski cabin, creating the perfect ambiance to sip sangria or mojitos with your flavor of the week.

Zed 451 is located at 739 N Clark St.

Citizen

With a loft-like interior feel, this upscale spot boasts one of Chicago’s best summer patios and rooftops. With a 500-square-foot outdoor space complete with two bars, live music, and flat screens, Citizen does its civic duty in bringing a South Beach feel to Chicago. Plus, you may just catch a glimpse of owner-turned-reality star “Jimmy D” who has been featured on the Millionaire Matchmaker on Bravo.

Citizen is located at 364 W. Erie.
