Hautos: Ferrari Auctions First FF Model in Japan for Disaster Relief Funds
Ferrari auctioned off a Ferrari FF and other branded items in Japan this past weekend to raise funds for victims of the nation’s recent earthquake and tsunami disasters. Over 200 clients and collectors were in attendance to support the cause and raised more than $724,000 in relief funds. While most of the money came from the sale of the FF – the first Ferrari FF to hit Japan – the iconic Italian auto brand also auctioned shirts signed by the Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro Formula 1 team.

Haute Time: PPR Luxury Group Now Majority Shareholder of Swiss Horology’s Sowind Group
PPR Luxury Group, which is internationally recognized as a top provider of the highest quality luxury goods with brands such as Gucci, Balenciaga, Alexander McQueen, and others, announced yesterday that they would become the majority shareholder of the Swiss haute horlogerie Sowind Group – which includes Girard-Perregaux and JeanRichard – with a 50.1% stake of the company. Based on a strategic partnership agreement that was signed in 2008, PPR already owned 23% when Sowind was still under the control of founder Luigi Macaluso, who passed away last October.

LANGE & SÖHNE SAXONIA Dual Time
Lange & Söhne is perhaps less a household name than some other top-shelf houses of fine watchmaking, but given its small annual production of gorgeously finished and precision engineered timepieces (it's located not in Switzerland, but in the German town of Glashütte, just outside Dresden) collectors wouldn't have it any other way. The company, which represents one of German watchmaking's proudest traditions (Ferdinand Adolphe Lange set up his workshop in Glashütte in 1845) rocked the watchmaking world with its iconic Lange 1 wristwatch, which it launched when it resumed watch production in post-reunification Germany in 1994. Though the Lange 1 remains its most recognizable watch Lange & Söhne has since gone on to demonstrate its mastery of watchmaking at every level of complexity.
