Texas is steeped in history. After struggling for freedom from Mexico, we were independent for an entire decade before we settled in as one of the states, so we know a thing or two about our history–making it and maintaining it. Preserving out culture, from the disenfranchised Native Americans to stoic pioneers to fallen presidents, is a top priority here in Dallas, which is why there is such an extensive list of historical landmarks that remain visible and revered around our city.

The HGC Gallery hosted a reception Saturday night for their new collection of art work, featuring sculptures, installments and paintings of waist-down paraphernalia, from balled-up socks to plastic gams. The theme was “Fancy Footwork,” and everything, from the exhibits themselves to the festively decorated tootsies of party-goers, screamed footloose.

The Fashion Industry Gallery (F.I.G), home to many wholesale fashion markets, held their first annual Fresh Event Saturday, a tweaked version of their usual expos that highlighted the most luxurious and chic fads in the worlds of health, beauty and fitness.

You love the seafood at Eddie V’s. But who wants to go to Fort Worth just to get their hands on some claws?

The fish gods have heard your call. On Monday Eddie V’s, the Dallas edition, opened its doors to the public. Situated on Oaklawn Avenue by the Equinox Fitness Center (crab after cardio, check), the new joint has already played host to the major players of local steak and seafood haunts.

Of course a lot of things would be different if you were president. But besides all the policy changing and filibustering, you’d probably stick with what works: the private jet, the television appearances, maybe even that big white house (with a couple decor improvements, obviously.)

Luckily, you can still enjoy the five-star treatment without being the leader of the free world. In Dallas, such luxury is easy to find, in the form of Presidential Suites: those incredible sprawling hotel rooms listed as the best of the best. So whether you’re visiting the big D or just taking a weekend to get your head straight, feel free to live it up and press PH when you get in that elevator. You deserve it.

Finally, Christian Louboutin is putting its red-soled shoes where it belongs: at Highland Park Village, in the space of the old Banana Republic store (R.I.P). Add to that Diane von Furstenburg and Yves Saint Laurent, also slated to open in the HPV, and you’ve got what I would equate to shopping botox.

In Dallas, it’s not only important to look stunning, but to be cunning. Already a cultural hub, the new Arts District under construction here in Uptown is rapidly making our city a heavy hitter in the world of wine swirling and contemplative silences. So to encourage the oozing of intelligence, here’s a list of inspirational and educational arenas that are making Dallas citizens that much more interesting.

Here I am, thousands of miles away from my beloved Dallas and its people, baking away on some useless, sandy beach on the North Shore of Oahu. I am rarely in my room. I don’t own an iPhone. The television has at least four channels of people dancing the hula, and all I have wanted to do it sit back with my Mai Tai and forget about two things: Ocean Prime, and Jerry Jones.

If there’s one thing that competes with the size of your hair in Dallas, it’s the size of your bling. Bigger is better in Texas, after all, so the jewelry boutiques of our fair city must be up to the challenge of keeping the hunger of the glitteratti satiated. Thankfully, we have plenty of boutiques and designers who continue to step up to the plate to bring us the boldest, most luxurious jewels and time pieces to weigh down our wrists and lighten our spirits.
