The Standard Hotel hosted a Midwinter Night’s Skate party this week. Guests sipped Veuve Clicquot Champagne then took to the hotel’s ice rink for an evening of gliding, twirling and perhaps a few falls. Professional skaters Johnny Weir and Sasha Cohen graced the party-goers with a choreographed performance for guests including Amy Sacco, Monique Pean, Peter Davis, Douglas Hannant, Frederick Anderson and Lorenzo Martone. Model Coco Rocha lapped the ring with her mother in tow, followed by “Pan Am” actress Margot Robbie, who, according to the New York Post, delighted the crowd by showing off tricks and twirls on the ice for an hour.

DJ Avicii and his manager Ash Pournouri are personally donating $1 Million in profits from all gigs during their “House for Hunger” tour to the charity, Feeding America. The month-long tour comes to an end on January 31 in Amherst, MA. The charitable effort hit NYC in a big way this past weekend when the “House for Hunger” Avicii spun a 2 hour set at LAVO New York to benefit Feeding America.

American Express is donating $250,000 of profits from its skybox packages during New York Fashion Week to the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund. The upcoming donation marks the fifth year and 10th fashion season of American Express’ support for the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund.

Last year Daphne Guinness, an International Best Dressed Hall of Fame inductee, took to the Barney’s New York store front to act as a human mannequin, rocking a sequin and feather Alexander McQueen number. Another Daphne mannequin project is to debut February of this year.

Chef Craig Strong, Executive Chef at Studio in the Montage Hotel and Resort in Laguna Beach, Calif. cooked for an enthusiastic gathering of 30 diners at the famed James Beard House on W. 12th Street last night. Chef Craig Strong joined Montage Laguna Beach as Executive Chef of Studio in June 2009. Chef Strong is best known for his modern French cuisine with California influences–a welcomed influence for New Yorkers looking for a bright and fresh break from the NYC cold.

Marriott International acquired New York City’s Clock Tower building at 5 Madison Ave. The building was sold in 2007 for $200 million to Africa Israel USA, which now sold the property to Marriott for $165 million. The iconic building, also famously known as the The Metropolitan Life Insurance Company Tower, was constructed in 1909 and was uses as the insurance firm’s headquarters until 2005.
