The results for Round 1 of Restaurant Madness NYC are in and went as follows:

Haute Living’s curators have compiled a list of the 32 best restaurants in the city. Each week, pairs of restaurants will faceoff, with patrons voting for their favorite between the two. The one with the most votes will advance to the next round. At the end of a five- week period, the reigning restaurant will be crowned Haute Living Restaurant Madness Champion for 2012.

Now defunct New York institutions Matsuri Restaurant and Hiro Ballroom may be closed but their design legacy will be preserved; in well decorated homes throughout the city. Décor staples from both locales are up for auction. To be held in The Maritime Hotel, the owners of the two venues will hold a live auction of both eateries’ contents Wednesday, April 4 commencing at 2 p.m.

Haute 100 lister and one of New York’s most loved restaurateurs, Daniel Boulud celebrated his 57th birthday last night. Held at his restaurant Daniel, guests enjoyed a five-course meal but it was more than just a celebration of the chef. Chef Boulud, for the 13th year, used his birthday party as part celebratory gathering and part fundraiser for Citymeals on Wheels—the foundation of which Boulud is a board vice president.

Stepevi, a Turkish rug company known for its luxurious designs, opened its first North American locale, right here in Soho. The company, which was established seven years ago by a family that has been in the business of rich textiles since the 1900s, celebrated its new addition with a grand opening soiree last night, hosted by founder Cem Sengor and his wife and managing director Aysegul Yurekli Sengor.
