Circling the Drain: Gold Makes Filth Pretty at Weird Art Show

How do you define luxury? Is it the simple, elegant things in life that keep you going, or do you find yourself craving extreme bling to satiate your appetite for the extraordinary? If you checked out the strange art show Sustenance this weekend at an old warehouse on Singleton Avenue in Oak Cliff, then you may have gotten some grand ideas on how to make your home a true experiment in palatial decadence. Artist Iris Bechtol, the Gallery Director and Permanent Collection Coordinator for the Department of Visual Arts at Eastfield College, made gold-leaf covered drain holes in the space, creating an element of crude opulence.

Every weekend from September 18th through October 3rd, Sustenance art exhibit will be in full swing at the Singleton Warehouse, a venture that will feature 24 local artists who will create site-specific installations and interpret sustenance through video, sculptures, performances and more.
