In a city where restaurant concepts come and go with remarkable speed, few names carry the kind of emotional resonance that MORINI holds in New York’s dining scene. For nearly 15 years, Osteria MORINI was a cornerstone of SoHo, earning a loyal following through its warm hospitality, approachable Italian cuisine, and signature handmade pastas. Now, the beloved brand is making its highly anticipated return with Piccolo MORINI, a vibrant new concept that reimagines the MORINI legacy for a new generation of diners.

Opening in June 2026 at 40 Kenmare Street, Piccolo MORINI is the latest venture from Altamarea Group, the acclaimed hospitality company behind Marea, Ai Fiori, 53, Morini Brands, and Crazy Pizza. Rather than recreating the original restaurant, the new concept embraces the energy of contemporary downtown Manhattan, offering a more social, design-forward dining experience centered on exceptional pasta craftsmanship, curated small plates, and a lively cocktail culture.

The return is made even more meaningful by the involvement of Chef Bill Dorrler, the opening chef of Osteria MORINI and a longtime steward of the brand who also oversaw MORINI in Washington, D.C. His leadership helps bridge the restaurant’s celebrated past with its ambitious future, ensuring that the culinary identity that first made MORINI a neighborhood favorite remains firmly intact.

At the heart of the experience is a menu designed for modern dining habits. Guests can expect cicchetti and shareable plates alongside more than a dozen fresh pasta dishes that showcase the restaurant’s dedication to handmade Italian cuisine. While Piccolo MORINI is very much its own concept, several iconic favorites from the original restaurant make a welcome return. Signature dishes such as the mascarpone-stuffed cappelletti with truffles and prosciutto and the beloved gramigna with sausage ragù, white wine, and tomato offer longtime patrons a nostalgic connection while introducing new diners to some of the dishes that helped define the MORINI name.

Equally compelling is the restaurant’s beverage program, which places a strong emphasis on martinis and approachable luxury. The bar is designed to be a destination in its own right, anchored by the restaurant’s “Golden Happy Hour” and an unusually attractive offering of $9 martinis available all night at the bar. In a city where cocktail prices continue to climb, the program feels refreshingly accessible while maintaining the sophistication expected from an Altamarea Group concept. Complementing the martini-focused menu is a carefully curated selection of wines by the glass, creating an atmosphere that encourages guests to linger, socialize, and return often.

The physical space reflects the same balance between tradition and reinvention. Designed by Alsún Keogh of nusla design, Piccolo MORINI combines vintage Italian influences with contemporary downtown flair. Bronze mirrors, Murano glass lighting, café curtains, and repurposed Italian furnishings create a sense of warmth and familiarity, while bold colors, patterned wallpapers, and modern design elements introduce a youthful energy. The restaurant’s 92-seat indoor layout includes a main dining room, bar and lounge, and semi-private dining space, complemented by more than 40 outdoor seats that extend onto Kenmare Street during the warmer months.

Perhaps most appealing is the restaurant’s ambition to become more than simply another Italian restaurant. Piccolo MORINI is being positioned as a true neighborhood gathering place where guests can stop in for a quick cocktail, enjoy a casual pasta dinner with friends, or spend an entire evening immersed in the atmosphere. Throughout the summer, the restaurant will further embrace its community spirit by broadcasting World Cup matches throughout the space, including its outdoor seating areas, creating an energetic environment that reflects the rhythm and excitement of downtown New York.

At a time when many hospitality brands lean heavily on nostalgia, Altamarea Group has chosen a more compelling path. Piccolo MORINI honors the spirit and culinary excellence of the original while embracing the evolving tastes and expectations of modern diners. With Chef Bill Dorrler at the helm, a menu rooted in exceptional pasta craftsmanship, a design aesthetic that blends old and new, and a martini program destined to attract attention across the city, Piccolo MORINI arrives with all the ingredients necessary to become one of SoHo’s most exciting restaurant openings of 2026. For longtime fans and first-time visitors alike, it promises to be the kind of neighborhood destination that feels instantly familiar while offering something entirely fresh.
