Inside The New Zimmermann Flagship Boutique In New York City
Zimmermann has officially opened its New York City flagship store in Soho in a restored 1800s building on 39 Greene Street. Designed by long-term collaborators Studio McQualter, the new Zimmermann space is set within an iconic historical structure boasting an expansive loft-like ceiling that emphasizes the stunning grandeur of the space. The design highlights restored decorative tin ceilings and striking iron columns, preserving historic architectural elements while seamlessly integrating modern luxury for a refreshing and elevated feel.
A standout feature of the space is its large overhead skylight, which floods the store with natural light and offers a view of a private courtyard. This serene outdoor element enhances the store’s ambiance while echoing the local architectural vernacular, creating a harmonious blend of indoor and outdoor elements.
“New York is a special place for us; it has incredible energy. The concentration of architecture, fashion, and art in Soho continues to make it one of the most vibrant neighborhoods in the city for me. Our Greene Street flagship is the perfect intersection of what we look for in a location: structural character and charm represent the area’s heritage, while the interior is our playground to design an immersive experience for our clients. Creatively, we had a lot of fun leaning into the site – it’s a green building featuring a green courtyard on Greene Street – there’s something really fun about that which appeals to me, and I think our clients will appreciate it too,” shared Nicky Zimmermann, Creative Director and Co-Founder.
The new design introduces its guests to two distinct rooms that present a sense of openness and splendor. Visitors are greeted by the first room featuring Palladiana floors and striking white high-gloss walls. Seamlessly blending elements of modern and historical aesthetics, the store stands out with brutalist concrete window sills, 19th-century pendant lights, and a seventies Italian timber display table, presenting a juxtaposition of textures and eras that create a sophisticated yet relaxed atmosphere.
The Zimmermann Accessories Lounge includes two meticulously designed fitting rooms while a Louis XVI stone fireplace elegantly framed by custom mirrored doors imported from Italy sits as the lounge’s centerpiece as chic focal point. A reclaimed 19th Century Chinese three-panel screen adds to the room’s charm, artistically draped with a curated selection of belts, scarves, and standalone jewelry cases. The brand’s new location furthers its commitment to creating retail environments that are both sophisticated and in tune with their surroundings. The blend of historical and contemporary features provides a rich and inviting backdrop for the brand’s elegant collections. The boutique is now open with Zimmermann’s Fall 2024 ready-to-wear collection.
