Today marks a sad day in the world of luxury fashion, especially within the footwear space—the legendary footwear designer Sergio Rossi, passed away in Italy after a battle with the coronavirus, at 84 years old. His styles were and continue to be worn by some of the most recognizable and fashionable female figure in the world, including Lizzo, Gigi Hadid, Priyanka Chopra, Rihanna, Laura Harrier, Taylor Swift and Chiara Ferragni, among others.

“Today, everyone at Sergio Rossi joins me in remembering our dear Sergio, the inspiring founder of our dream,” began Riccardo Sciutto, CEO of Sergio Rossi Group. “Sergio Rossi was a master, and it is my great honor to have met him and gotten to present him the archive earlier this year. His vision and approach will remain our guide in the growth of the brand and the business. He loved women and was able to capture a woman’s femininity in a unique way, creating the perfect extension of a woman’s leg through his shoes. Our long and glorious history started from his incredible vision and we’ll remember his creativity forever.”

In the days leading up to his death, Rossi’s brand launched its “Shoes Make A Difference” initiative, urging people to stay home to slow the spread of the deadly COVID-19, pledging 100-percent of online sales to go toward combatting the global pandemic.
Sergio Rossi is also father of another iconic shoe designer, Gianvito Rossi, who happens to be one of my personal favorite shoe designers of all time. Gianvito Rossi became so well-versed in the world of luxury shoes by growing up around his father and his artisans, starting his own brand in 2007, which reached an incredible amount of success on a global scale. Surely between the two brands, the legacy of Sergio will live on.
