Nicky Hilton Dishes On How Her Daughters Inspired Her Tolani ‘Mommy & Me’ Collection

Nicky Hilton Rothschild has designed everything from clothing to handbags to jewelry and now she’s venturing into the world of childrenswear. Her Nicky Hilton x Tolani “Mommy and Me” capsule collection features both women’s and girl’s sizing, and includes tops, dresses and shorts that range in price from $35-$248. We caught up with the heiress, model, philanthropist and designer during a meet and greet at one of her favorite L.A. boutiques, Kitson Kitross on Robertson, to chat about the collaboration, how it was inspired by her daughters, 20-month-old Lily Grace Victoria and Theodora “Teddy” Marilyn (born just December 20) and the most important lessons she’s planning on teaching her children.

How did your “Mommy & Me” collection come to be?
I have been wearing for Tolani for years. I love their aesthetic and vibe. When I became pregnant with my second daughter I approached them about doing a mommy and me line. Neither of us had ever designed children clothing but we thought it would be fun.

What sets the collection apart?
I love the fun bright prints. They make you feel happy.

How did your own daughters inspire the collection?
Every mother I know loves to dress up their daughters. I thought it would be sweet to be able to dress up with them. I wanted to design pieces that wear comfortable and easy to wear.

Do your daughters have distinctive fashion tastes at the moment? If not, how do you dress them?
My 21-month-old daughter is obsessed with Mickey Mouse! Everything is Mickey..

What is the most rewarding thing about motherhood?
Watching them grow everyday into sweet, kind little girls.

What is the hardest thing about motherhood?
Being away from them. I try and not take projects that require me to travel too much. I get too sad.

How did you pick your daughters’ names?
I really liked the names Lily and Grace so I decided to combine them. Theodora has always been a name I loved. Her middle name Marilyn was my grandmother’s.

What are the most important lessons you plan on teaching them?
Manners, work ethic and respect.
