Pagani Zonda HP Barchetta: Grand Finale For Zonda Worshippers

Almost two decades and dozens of special editions have marked an era of superlatives. Now for the ultimate triumph, Horacio Pagani’s initials grace what seems to be a crème de la crème Zonda model. Only three will be built, price is rumored at around 15 million US dollars. The first one in a lavish blue shade has been exposed to the public at Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, a piece that will enter a private collection of the inventor himself. So what is radical about this car?

It comes as a result of improvements and engineering on Zonda models over the years, combining the very best this hypercar manufacturer has developed in its production cycles. Use of new materials, such as Carbo-Titanium and Carbo-Triax HP-52 reduce weight while adding stiffness only known to Formula 1 and military aerospace industries. Stopping power exists in the form of Brembo’s Carbon Ceramic composites, all-round with 380 mm of cross diameter, 6-pistons front and 4-pistons rear. While transmission is a six speed manual, some might object, but this is a mechanical masterpiece that I enjoyed many times in various Zondas driven.

The crown jewel of the HP is a 12-cylinder engine of classical 7,3 liter proportions made by AMG. There has been no official statement of the output delivered by this, internally coded M120 unit, but presumably rated at around 800 bhp. Reminding you this still is a naturally aspirated V-12, performance is mind bending. Now think for a second, that this body has a front windshield, which is half sized in comparison with a normal one. Radical and hairdressers might not approve. Design wise, Juan Mauel Fangio’s legend returns to the interior textures, a tribute to the inspiration.

The remaining two examples manufactured at the Pagani’s Uno-di-Uno division will be auctioned internally among owners who already possess at least two of their cars. Nevertheless, we are not absolutely sure, this will be the final output of the Zonda special models.
