Weekend Roundup: Eat Drink SF; Peaceful Protests

News | August 28, 2017

San Francisco’s culinary community came together for the three-day food extravaganza Eat Drink SF. The event took place at Fort Mason and featured a series of grand tastings, educational seminars, endless bites, and a plethora of spirits and wine. Virtually every restaurant/artisan food purveyor in the city participated in some way, from Pizzeria Delfina (who served an assortment of delicious pies) to Kollar Chocolates (the chocolate sushi was almost too pretty to eat!). A cornucopia of seasonal produce surrounding the event’s logo on wooden boards proved to be the best spot to snap an Instagram at the event.

Although the city was on edge about possible right-wing gatherings, the white supremacists cancelled their events and the protestors that showed up at Civic Center were peaceful. The anti-hate movement was hopeful with families in attendance and plenty of spirited homemade signs like “If you’re going to San Francisco, DON’T BE A NAZI!” “Fight White Supremacy!” and “More Sex Less Hate.” Musician and activist Michael Franti performed at the rally in front of City Hall.

San Francisco experienced its annual mass exodus as half of the inhabitants headed to Black Rock City in Nevada. The annual Burning Man festival is underway and everyone from tech moguls to old hippies will be in the desert for the arts, music, and fire extravaganza.
