Haute 100: Yankees and Tampa Sports Authority Agree to $40M Renovation

On Monday, the New York Yankees as well as the Tampa Sports Authority announced a $40 million renovation of George M. Steinbrenner Field.

In a statement, Haute 100 lister Hal Steinbrenner, Yankees Managing General Partner, said, “The Steinbrenner family is extremely proud to have called Tampa Bay home for decades and extending the New York Yankees’ agreement with the community through 2046 is very important to us. We are excited to see these improvements to Steinbrenner Field, all of which will significantly improve the fan experience.”

The renovation will boast new sleek concourses in the outfield, which will give event-goers a 360-degree view of the new field, “social gathering” areas and additional shaded spaces. Fans will be delighted to know the renovation will feature improvements on entry areas, which will make access to the facility simple and swift. There will also be improvements made to the Yankees Training Complex on Himes Avenue.

In addition, the deal extends the lease agreement between the New York Yankees and the Tampa Sports Authority. The agreement will keep the team’s spring training games in Tamp through 2046.

“The New York Yankees have been great partners in our community for decades and having these improvements and commitment thru 2046 will be a major economic benefit for our area,” added Eric Hart, TSA President and CEO. “I would like to thank the Hillsborough County administration and the New York Yankees for their efforts to ensure the continuation of this great partnership.”

The agreement is still pending approval by the Tampa Sports Authority’s board of directors, the Hillsborough County commission, the Tampa City Council, the Hillsborough County Aviation Authority and the Hillsborough Community College board of directors. Once approval is received, renovations will begin as early as possible. The improvements are slated to be completed by March 2017, in time for spring training.
