Haute 100: Tim Cook Has A New Role
If we thought Haute 100 lister Tim Cook was one of the busiest men in Silicon Valley, he just got busier. Cook has just been announced as the newest addition to the board of directors at the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights.
In an announcement, Kerry Kennedy, President and CEO of Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights, said, “Tim knows the importance of advocating for and representing people who have not been heard. He has integrity and does not shy away from challenging issues when he knows they are right and just. Tim is deeply committed to the social justice work that he is helping Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights accomplish.”
Cook added, “Growing up, I was inspired by Robert Kennedy’s infinite hope for humanity and his belief that people at their core are good, sharing universal goals for themselves and the world in which we live. Robert Kennedy spoke to our highest aspirations, calling Americans from all walks of life to fight for something better. He was and is a hero and role model to me, and I am honored to serve alongside Kerry and the rest of the board to advance his message of justice and equality.”
Cook has dedicated his time to advocacy groups and advancing human rights. Last year, the CEO of Apple was honored at the 19th annual Human Rights Campaign, the nation’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) civil rights organization, national dinner. Cook received the Visibility Award, an accolade given to high-profile LGBT individuals whom the group believes make for positive role models. Cook also received the Ripple of Hope Award at the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights gala. The award was granted for Cook’s commitment to sustainable business practices and his lifelong commitment to human rights.
