Dragonfly at Hotel ZaZa For A Posh Evening

Dragonfly at Hotel ZaZa is something like we imagine jumping down a rabbit hole would be if we were called Alice. It could also be described as steampunk meets Miami Vice. Either way, it’s an experience. While it isn’t somewhere we’d go every week we do think it’s one of those places that you have to go to at least once, and maybe twice just to make sure you weren’t hallucinating the first time. It’s definitely the place to people watch in Dallas; a never-ending parade of the celebrities that are in town for one reason or another.
It is both bar and restaurant and each is innovative and dramatic in its own way. Dark, romantic lighting, plush seating, and a party atmosphere make it the number one spot in Dallas to kick back and have fun.
Let’s talk cocktails.
Our current favorite is the Pumpkin Spicetini made with vanilla vodka, pumpkin spice syrup, Bailey’s, and cinnamon. It’s like sipping on liquid pumpkin pie. The Big Flirt is totally tropical and we’d definitely recommend that as well. The Peach Jalapeno Martini is an addictive combination of sweet and spicy; peach vodka, peach schnapps, jalapenos, and white cranberry juice. They are expertly mixed and perfectly blended.
The wine and beer lists are not as extensive as we expected but there’s a nice variety to choose from. A Ruinart Rose enticed us with fine effervescence and fruity, spicy flavor. If you are celebrating something, or just want to really impress your date, this is the bubbly for you. There’s a nice selection of Chardonnay, although the Chenin Blancs and Rieslings are limited. Cabernet Sauvignon is well represented in the red category but if you are a fan of Zinfandel you have one choice. The Prisoner, a California wine which is a blend of Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Petite Sirah, and Charbono. Hardly a Zin at all yet it is categorized as Zinfandel on the menu. Quelle horreur!
The beer menu embraces two of our favorite Texas craft brews, Revolver’s Blood & Honey and seasonal beers from Lakewood Brewery. There are several other small batch beers on the menu along with some national brands.
If you need a little nibble to go along with your drinks we heartily recommend the volcano fries or the spiced ahi tuna tacos. Other mouthwatering possibilities that we didn’t try were the bacon brisket cheddar sliders, the whole wheat flatbread pizza, or the steak and foie dumplings. We do plan on noshing our way through the bar menu though so check back with us.
It’s a tough job but we’re willing to make the sacrifice.
