The Hamptons International Film Festival (HIFF) is a year-round, non-profit organization and was founded to celebrate independent film. HIFF introduces a unique and varied spectrum of international filmmakers and their films to the attending audience. The annual festival is the premiere film event in New York and is a detailed showcase of some of the year’s hautest offerings in film from around the world.
Awarding a total of more than $190,000 in cash and in-kind prizes, HIFF attracts some of the best films of the year. 2013 marked the 5th time in the last 6 years that a film at the festival became the eventual Best Picture winner at the Oscars, making HIFF the only festival on the East coast with such a prestigious distinction. In those 6 years, films screened in the festival have received 150 Oscar nominations.
The festival has also had a significant amount of films highlighted every year at the Academy Awards and Golden Globes, as well as the Gotham Awards and Independent Spirit Awards. It is not hard to believe that some of the biggest names in film such as Julianne Moore, Richard Gere, Lupita Nyong’o, Meryl Streep, Sienna Miller, Anna Kendrick & Helena Bonham Carter, among several others, have attended the event.
HIFF doesn’t just provide film lovers with an annual event to see new screenings, but also puts on events, screenings, film workshops and comprehensive summer programs. Overall HIFF and the annual festival are committed to exhibiting films with fresh perspectives and differing global viewpoints in the hopes of enlightening audiences and providing invaluable exposure for filmmakers.
