Haute 100 LA: Ben Affleck & Matt Damon to Produce FIFA Scandal Film
Ben Affleck alongside his best friend Matt Damon will be among those brining the FIFA corruption scandal to the big screen.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros. will be producing a film that recounts American FIFA executive Chuck Blazer’s role in one of, if not, the largest sports and public corruption scandal in history. The film, which will be based off the book Houses of Deceit penned by investigative reporter Ken Bensinger and is slated to be published 2017, will tell the story of Blazer and his alleged involvement in bribery and tax evasion as well as a number of other things.
Blazer held a number of top tier titles such as the FIFA executive committee member and executive VP of the U.S. Soccer Federation as well as general manger of CONCACAF, the soccer governing body for North and Central America.
Thus far, it has been confirmed Guymon Casady and Darin Friedman are producing the film via Entertainment 360, the production arm of Management 360. Affleck is producing with Matt Damon via their Warner Bros.-based Pearl Street Films. Anthony Tambakis will write the script.
Not all the deals have been closed yet. However, they are slated to be completed very soon.
For those of you unfamiliar with the FIFA scandal, following an investigation conducted by the Federal Bureau Investigation, there has been a total of 47 counts indictment charging 14 defendants (current and former FIFA officials) with racketeering, wire fraud and money laundering conspiracies. Blazer is a key figure in the scandal.
In May, Blazer pleaded guilty to 10 charges of racketeering, wire fraud, money laundering conspiracies and tax evasion. The 70-year-old is cooperating with U.S. prosecutors.
