Own A Piece Of The American Bar
The Savoy Collection is one of the world’s most prestigious and unique collections of one-of-a-kind spirits and liquids which is why, here at Haute Living, we’re excited to learn that The Savoy has released three of their specially commissioned and bespoke decanters – all presented in a stunning hand-made presentation box designed to hold one of the rarest Speyside whiskies available today: take a bow the 48 year old Macallan.
Created by Britain’s most prestigious specialist craftsmen and designers, and priced at £18,500, this rare collector’s item is made even more valuable by the addition of a piece of the original Savoy American Bar as part of the presentation box.
To make this one-off piece, The Savoy’s experts have travelled the country and teamed up with some of the world’s most esteemed specialists in this year-long project. With a sleek, Art Deco silhouette, each decanter is hand blown and an individual work of art. The glass was produced by Brodie Nairn and Nichola Burns of Glasstorm Studio in Tain, Scotland, one of the most celebrated glass studios in the world. Each decanter has a hand-engraved collar created by Hamilton & Inches of Edinburgh, Silversmiths and Clock Specialists to the Queen and Royal Warrant holders since 1955. Each collar was created from a single sheet of silver individually spun on a lathe.
The box for each decanter was produced by Neil Stevenson, specialist cabinetmaker and holder of a Royal Warrant since 2003, who has been creating cabinets and furniture for the Royal family since 1992. Each box is handmade and polished, and includes a piece of the original Savoy American Bar.
The single malt Macallan was discovered by renowned whisky experts, Speciality Drinks, who came across a small parcel of Macallan whisky in cask, aged for over 48 years in a sherry butt, and worked with the Savoy to create this exceptional piece.
Launched by The Savoy in 2013, The Collection was created to celebrate the rare and the beautiful in the world of drinks. Many decades ago, The Savoy created a range of spirits, bottled exclusively for the hotel, to be enjoyed by the most loyal guests and discerned imbibers of the time. Having revived this tradition, many of the bottles in The Savoy Collection boast a history as colourful as that of the hotel, but all of them are stars of the future, carefully chosen to improve with age. The Collection so far includes a 21-year-old Macallan, The Manhattan Cocktail, a 17-year-old Laphroaig, Demerara Rum from Guyana 1975, The Royal Suite Reserve Cognac and Savoy Martini Bitters.
Today, rare spirits are increasing in popularity and prestige, becoming valuable as a collector’s item. With only three being released each year, and containing a piece of bar history, the Savoy Collection’s Macallan, decanter and box’s value is sure to be a jewel in any collector’s crown.
