Haute Event: Princess Gloria von Thurn und Taxis Debuts Art Collection
Last night a select few were invited to discover a display of unique portraits drawn by Princess Gloria von Thurn und Taxis titled, “Come On Darling, Don’t Be Mad.“ Known as the “punk princess,” Gloria has long been an influential patron and supporter within the art community. The series contains familiar faces from past and present, all of whose history intertwine with the bohemian hotel.
Notable guests included Princess Gloria von Thurn und Taxis, Peter Marino, Calvin Klein, Laura Eastwood, Susan Bartsch, Andres Serrano, Jeffrey Deitch, Andre Balazs, Jeff Koons, Sir John Richardson, and Father Gerald Murray.
As she recalls, “I went to the Chelsea Hotel, not to sleep, but to look at who is there all the time when I was young.” No doubt that ghosts from surrounded us while dancing to the music from 70’s, revival of the Studio 54.
The hand-drawn portraits include Leonard Cohen, Alice Cooper, Quentin Crisp, Willem de Kooning, Bob Dylan, Ralph Gibson, Allen Ginsberg, Jimi Hendrix, Dennis Hopper, Jasper Johns, Janis Joplin, Frida Kahlo, Stanley Kubrick, Robert Mapplethorpe, Arthur Miller, O’ Henry, Claes Oldenburg, Iggy Pop, Dee Dee Ramone, Rene Ricard, Diego Rivera, Larry Rivers, Jean-Paul Sartre, Edie Sedgwick, Dylan Thomas, Mark Twain, Tom Waits, Rufus Wainwright, Tennessee Williams, Tom Wolfe, Virgil Thomson, Sid Vicious, Gore Vidal, Andy Warhol, and Viva. The show will be on view by appointment until June 25th, 2014.
