The Suite Life: Stay at the Montage Beverly Hills’ Suite 100
When the Beverly Hills tourism board announced that five of its most luxurious hotels were getting involved in its Suite 100 project – recreating a period-specific suite in honor of the city’s centennial year – we were excited to see the results. After being treated like a VIP in the Montage’s 40s-themed double suite, to say we weren’t disappointed is the mother of all understatements.
From the moment of our arrival, we were treated like the most important guest at the hotel. We didn’t have to do anything as pedantic as actually checking in – instead, we were whisked to the double suite and immediately urged to enjoy ourselves fully. Oh, we sure did.
Everything in the interior is 40s inspired, from its Nina Petronzio-designed living room to a vintage Underwood Noiseless Typewriter, from Thanks for the Memories, which you’re urged to use. Pretend you’re Ernest Hemingway or George Bernard Shaw, both of whom used this specific typewriter. Fans of House of Cards will also recognize the Underwood Typewriter from Season Two’s finale episode.
There are 40s-era end tables, custom-made by Plush Home with Schumacher fabrics, a toile Chinoiserie, which dresses up the Lucca slipper chairs and ottoman and a Lalique water pearls coffee table that takes center stage above an Aga John Egyptian area rug.
In the master bedroom, there is a huge and opulent Plush Home Gatsby Bed and Park Avenue Ottomans in Schumacher fabric tabletop an Aga John Egyptian area rug. Made in Italy, luxe Barbacci bedding features embroidery custom made specifically for Suite 100. There is also a $40,000 light-up work of art by Lalique which provides night light, should you need it.
The second Master Bedroom at Suite 100 at Montage Beverly Hills has gold holographic wall coverings, which will definitely deceive your eyes the longer you look at it. This sets the backdrop for a grand Plush Home Concorde Bed in Schumacher silk. Lined with an impressive four rows of nail head trim, the bed is flanked by Plush Home Anna May bedside tables that offer curved mirrored panels to balance out the repeating geometric ziggurat patterns famous in the 40s. Fine, Italian made bedding by Barbacci features impressive gold embroidery on Egyptian cotton. An Aga John Egyptian area rug completes the vintage feel.
Our favorite part of the suite was the amazing “Press for Champagne” button. Every guest that stays in the suite, upon pressing the button, is treated to a complimentary bottle of Laurent Perrier Champagne. Additional bottles are available at a cost, but there really isn’t anything quite as fun as pressing that button.
The drinks menu comes close, though. There are cocktails named after famous folks of the era, from Hemingway to William Faulkner to Alfred Hitchcock. In particular, we’re fans of the Faulkner: bourbon whiskey, powdered sugar and mint leaves. On the Honor Bar, there’s also a selection of 40s-specific candy to satisfy your sweet tooth.

Though we dined at Scott Conant’s delightful Italian eatery, Scarpetta, for dinner, we did take advantage of the Suite 100 room service menu. Hors d’ouevres include haute items like Oyster Rockefeller and Anchovy Toast, while dinner entrees include Chateau Briand for two and Trout Almandine, all delivered elegantly to your room with the utmost presentation, and arranged inside or on one of your two terraces overlooking Beverly Hills.
To the personalized attention, to the use of the Montage’s rooftop pool, to our own personalized stationery, to receiving our own take-home copy of The Maltese Falcon script, truly, we couldn’t have asked for a stay that made us feel more like VIPs.
