Daniel Boulud, haute ambassador and chef extraordinaire, debuted the new look of his signature Upper East Side restaurant Daniel last Monday, and all of NY society was in attendance. The restaurant closed a few months ago for a floor-to-ceiling makeover in honor of its 10th anniversary as one of the city’s lasting haute spots.
The renovation came courtesy of the vision of designer Adam D. Tihany, who infused the space with opulent lighting sources, such as glass light boxes over the balustrades, wrought-iron wall sconces molded after tree branches, custom chandeliers, and a back-lit etched wall in the bar room.
Boulud ensures that while his restaurants are always evolving, one should expect to enjoy the same experience, despite the plush new setting, which is made all the more complete with velvet sofas in the lounge and bar, red leather dining chairs, silk wall panels, leather screens, and dark brown carpeting. The walls are now adorned with works by Manolo Valdés, which Boulud picked out himself. New York Magazine has a photo gallery of the renovated space. We recommend taking a look to get a complete feel for the ambiance, because, as it has been for the past 10 years, if you stop by the restaurant itself, the amazing designs will be obscured by the abundance of patrons trying to get their fill of Boulud’s delectable cuisine.
