Model Beach Volleyball Tourney on South Beach This Weekend

The beach is going to be, as they say, “blowing up” this weekend. But if we’re saying it here, we mean it in only the hautest of ways. If you aren’t planning on an early wake-up call on Sunday morning for the Nautica SoBe Triathlon, then we’re sure it is because you’re saving your energies for one of the most exclusive volleyball tournaments that the beach has seen.

The 2010 Model Beach Volleyball Tournament will be hosted by some of our favorite Miamians, including Jerry Powers, Rick Delgado, Michael Malone, and Olivia Ormos. And we couldn’t be more excited that our own Haute Living Official DJ, who also lends his talents to the Miami Heat, DJ Irie, will be on hand to make sure that the party doesn’t stop.

Nikki Beach is the place to be this weekend (April 10 & 11), whether you are an active participant, or a spectator who prefers to sit back and watch the models do what they do best…play volleyball, of course.

This two-day event will feature eight top model agencies, as well as one celebrity athlete team, competing in a co-ed beach volleyball tournament. These top agencies include Next, CGM, Elite, MC2, Mega, Front, Green Agency, and Wilhelmina.

The battle will consist of two days of competition. First day play consists of a round robin format. Teams will play each other for seating. The tournament continues day two with a double elimination bracket. Finals to be held on Sunday around 4 p.m. (weather permitting) Teams will compete for the MBVT CUP on Sunday.

The MBVT is a free event and open to the public, with spectator stands as well as sponsorship spike boxes catering to female and male tastemakers, trendsetters, local models, media, liquor representatives, VIP clientele and professional athletes.

Veteran Volleyball Event Producer and MC Rick Delgado will return to the MBVT, keeping the model teams and spectators up to date on game time scores, commentary, and updates.

Event Kickoff will take place at the Wall at the W Hotel on Friday April 9 at 11 p.m.
