Haute 100 Miami Update: Latin Super-Star Alejandro Sanz Gets His Own Day In LA
Spanish singer-songwriter, Alejandro Sanz, has been one of Latin Music’s brightest stars for two decades. His undisputed talent has consistently positioned him at the top of the charts and now, the city of Los Angeles has officially named April 30 The Alejandro Sanz Day.
The story goes back a few years to 9/11 when Sanz was scheduled to perform at the 2nd annual Latin Music Awards in LA, a show that never took place because of the attacks. The Axe, Sanz’s guitar, that was supposed to strum that night was never heard; however, it was used in next year’s Grammy Awards by Alejandro Sanz to accompany Destiny’s Child during a performance of “Quisiera Ser.” Axe is now immortalized along with The Alejandro Sanz Day at the Grammy Museum.
The press conference to commemorate Sanz for his accomplishments took place yesterday in Los Angeles where Councilwoman Jan Perry bestowed the honor on the singer; a day before kicking off his world tour at the Nokia Theatre from his latest album “La music no se toca” which up to date has earned an impressive 17 gold and platinum awards, making it the most successful album of 2012 and 2013.
