Attire: Black Tie
The U.S. premiere of Christopher Wheeldon’s magical new production of Cinderella begins this week, and the Cinderella Opening Night Ball comes only once in a lifetime. Opening night festivities begin with an elegant cocktail reception in the lobby of the War Memorial Opera House. Then join Cinderella choreographer Christopher Wheeldon, the designers of the production, and leaders of the dance world for a sumptuous dinner catered by McCall Associates in a spectacularly designed tent by Riccardo Benavides of Ideas in the War Memorial Courtyard between the Opera House and the Veterans’ Building. Then witness the U.S. premiere of Wheeldon’s magical production of Cinderella.
Inspired by the Brothers Grimm and Perrault fairy tales, this wildly imaginative co-production with Dutch National Ballet features something for everyone: dramatic music by Prokofiev, spectacular sets and costumes by Julian Crouch (renowned for his designs for Metropolitan Opera and the Broadway musical The Addams Family), and ingenious puppetry by Obie Award winner Basil Twist. Showing from May 3-12.
On April 8, Saks Fifth Avenue San Francisco hosted an official launch party to celebrate the U.S. premiere of Wheeldon’s Cinderella. The Cinderella-themed décor at the ball featured a special Giambattista ValliHaute Couture Collection No. 4, by Giambattista Valli. Take a look at scenes from the spectacular launch event.
