Superman’s Schedule: Dwight Howard

News | March 25, 2013

Dwight Howard

He’s been called D-12, Superman, Steel Man, Foul On You and D Wight, and though his nickname might change, there is one constant in Dwight Howard’s life: the man is a powerhouse on the basketball court. After his 2012 trade from the Orlando Magic to the LA Lakers, the 27-year-old is embracing his new life in Los Angeles. Though he hasn’t had much time to play in LA (yet), Howard takes Haute Living through a day in his life during the NBA season, revealing his daily workout routine and what he really gets up to after a game. Though he didn’t mention his philanthropic commitments, we did the job for him: the Atlantaborn athlete acted as auctioneer and went one-on-one with fans during Lakers Casino Night, a benefit presented by OneWest Bank and the Pechanga Resort & Casino for the Lakers Youth Foundation on March 10. Talk about a super man…

8 AM I get up around this time, and then I brush my teeth and look at the daily goals on my wall.

8:15 AM I read a little bit and pray, and then I go to my closets. I have two closets, so I go back and forth from one closet to the other to see what I want to wear in the morning. One closet has all of my shoes and shorts and stuff. After going back and forth a few times, I finally decide what I want to wear.

8:30-8:45 AM I go down and eat breakfast. The training staff has me trying new foods for better nutrition, so my breakfasts vary.

9 AM I leave for the practice facility in El Segundo. I have a driver so I read and listen to music on my way to practice.

9:30 AM I get to the facility and work out and lift weights.

10 AM-12/12:30 PM I practice.

12:30-2 PM I’ll talk to the media after practice, and then shoot some free throws and do some conditioning. Then I take a shower, grab some food that’s provided to us at the practice facility, and then head home (or back to a hotel if we’re on the road).

2-5 PM This is naptime. I usually take a nap from 2 P.M. until 5 P.M. or so.

5:45 PM I get to the arena [the Staples Center], where I’ll get my back and shoulders worked on by our training staff – and then I get ready for the game.

7:30 PM The game usually starts around now.

9:30-10 PM After the game – after the win – this is usually when I head home, depending on when the game starts.

10 PM-12 AM From 10 P.M. until about midnight I play video games, particularly “Call of Duty” to get my mind off of everything. And then I go to sleep and do it all again the next day.
