In a city the boasts the world’s finest Chinese cuisine, there are innumerable interpretations of Cantonese dining. One of the best is to be found at Cherry Garden.
Voted Singapore’s Best Restaurant by the prestigious Singapore Tattler two years in a row, this outlet in the freshly renovated Oriental, Singapore offers a seamless blend of Chinese antiquity and contemporary flare guided by the principals and elements of Feng Shui. Walls are adorned with sheer ivory voile and charcoaled teakwood panels, while pearly shelled light fixtures preside over the tranquil dining space. Two lavish private dining rooms fitted with custom-designed cherry blossom carpeting are also available upon request.
Chef Hiew Gun Khong‘s diverse menu shows his versatility and skill with everything from double boiled shark’s fin soup (a true mark of the chef’s skill) to oven baked sea perch in spicy sesame balsamic glaze. Dessert, a sour plum crystal jelly with sliced guava, is a true spectacle, and arrives on a smoldering glass cauldron of dry ice.
A tea master performs poetic age-old Chinese kung fu tea rituals and prepares the finest tailor made infusions. The seasoned tea expert also relates the history of diners’ chosen drinks and their associated health benefits during this remarkable dining experience.
