Boathouse Operator Dean Poll Buys Gallagher’s Steakhouse in Midtown

News | January 3, 2013

One of New York’s iconic steakhouses has been given a second chance at life. Central Park Boathouse operator Dean Poll recently purchased Gallagher’s steakhouse from its longtime owner Marlene Brody. The 200-seat midtown institution was founded in 1927 and has a long history of celebrity clientele, including Shirley MacLaine, Jackie Mason and countless Broadway stars.

“It’s part of the fabric of New York, and I’m privileged to own it,” Poll told the New York Post.

Though he has no plans to change the restaurant’s name or it’s classic decor, which includes a meat locker at the entrance and wood-paneled dining rooms filled with vintage photos of entertainers, politicians, athletes and racehorses, Poll may tweak the menu.
