The 82nd Academy Awards: Bigelow Makes History
Yesterday evening the Kodak Theater in Hollywood held the 82nd Academy Awards with co-hosts Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin. The comedic pair shared punch lines and kicked off the awards ceremony by lightly taunting the year’s nominees.
Comedy continued throughout the broadcast when Ben Stiller brought some color to the stage presenting the award for Best Makeup as a character from Avatar.
Tina Fey and Robert Downey Jr. brought out one of the funniest bits of the night during their announcement for Best Screenplay when they mocked the differences in what writers and actors want from a script.
Kathryn Bigelow was recognized for her outstanding direction in “The Hurt Locker” when she was awarded the Oscars for both Best Picture and Best Director. Beating out her ex-husband, James Cameron, for his direction in “Avatar” granted Bigelow the honor of being the first woman to win best director.
However, the sci-fi favorite did not go unrecognized as it received awards of Best Visual Effects, Best Cinematography and Best Art Direction.
Sandra Bullock’s award winning performance as the famous Leigh Ann Tuohy in “The Blind Side” won her the Oscar for Best Actress. Humbled and gracious, Bullock accepted the award with grace and honor as she gave recognition to all her fellow nominees.
For his role in “Crazy Heart,” Jeff Bridges accepted his first Oscar for the award of Best Actor dedicating it to his parents as he raised the Oscar towards heaven. Performing as a faded country music singer-songwriter, Bad Blake, Bridges was finally recognized for his talent after being nominated four previous times.
