Dmitry Medvedev Invited British Band Smokie to Kremlin Dinner

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev invited veteran rock band Smokie to play at an exlcusive Kremlin dinner.
Known for hits like “Living Next Door to Alice” in the 1970s, Smokie played four songs at an invitation-only dinner in Moscow on December 30 at the request of Russian President Dmitry Medvedev.
Smokie played to Medvedev and several hundred elite guests including Vladimir Putin, the prime minister, who reportedly was on hand for the evening. To eat, guests enjoyed “octopus carpaccio, baked veal with tuna sauce and panna cotta with a raspberry topping.”
Smokie had just completed a Russian tour before getting the exclusive invitation to perform for the President. Terry Uttley, the bassist for the band, said he was honored to take part in the event, adding, “I think Medvedev and Putin were at the first table in front of the guitar player, although I couldn’t be certain. It was very highbrow. There wasn’t any dancing in the aisles.”
Uttley also noted that Australian Shiraz was served to guests.
