A Chinese collector bid $813,333 by phone at Acker Merral & Condit’s auction for a super rare Domaine de la Romanée-Conti 55-bottle “Superlot” ranging in vintage from 1952 to 2007 – which works out to be around $15,000 per bottle.

Ending the year for Hong Kong’s wine scene on an extremely high note, the sale is the firm’s most expensive lot this year of any sale, world-wide. Acker’s chief executive John Kapon said 2011 was a “triumphant year in Asia.” Over the past 12 months, Bordeaux and Chateau Lafit Rothschild have lost their momentum as Asia’s favorites with Burgundy’s Domaine de la Romanée-Conti now reigning among China’s top collectors.

At the auction where the Romanée-Conti sold for more than $800,000, other sales were similarly impressive. One hundred and one vintages of Chateau Mouton Rothschild sold for $500,513 and a 57-bottle lot of Chateau Petrus from 1957-2007 sold for $250,256.

Clearly on a roll, Acker will hold its next auction in mid-January. Fellow auction houses Christie’s and Sotheby’s also have more planned for the near year.
