Sugar-Coated Philanthropy: Cubs Shortstop Starlin Castro Visits Sprinkles Cupcakes

Sprinkles celebrates the kick-off for the Chicago Cubs season with a special Red Velvet Cupcake adorned with the Cubs logo to benefit Chicago Cubs Charities. On April 2 from 4-6 pm, Starlin Castro will be on hand with Sprinkles owner Charles Nelson serving up smiles and taking orders.

The special Cubs Cupcake ($3.50) will be on sale Monday, March 28– Saturday, April 2 with 100% of the proceeds to supports programs that promote children and young-adult interest in sports, particularly baseball. Other areas of supports include community-based services targeted to low-  and moderate-income families and individuals; community development initiatives; and schools, parks, open spaces and organizations within the immediate area surrounding Wrigley Field.

Since opening in 2005, Sprinkles has donated over $2 million in cash and cupcakes to charities in their local communities. Baked fresh in small batches throughout the day, Sprinkles Cupcakes are handcrafted from the finest ingredients, including sweet cream butter,  bittersweet Belgian chocolate, pure Madagascar Bourbon vanilla, fresh bananas and carrots, real strawberries and natural citrus zests.

Now if only they would make a “we have faith in you, Bulls” cupcake.
