Haute Event: Skingraft Presentation at Concept Fashion Week
On Sunday, March 13, 2011, Jonny Cota presented the Men’s and Women’s Fall 2011 Ready – To – Wear Collections under his label, Skingraft at Ace Gallery for Concept Los Angeles Fashion Week. Jonny Cota, often seen in leather and harem pants, has made a name for himself with his innovative construction, impeccable tailoring, and spiked embellishments. Upon entrance into the preview nook, elevated statuesque models- Skingraft clad of coarse- breaking boundaries of gender in creations of whimsy immediately cause one to wonder the inspiration behind the endeavor. Taking one step further than before, his Fall 2011 collections embody his vision of dark luxury inside death’s grace.
His small army of fashionistas – equally as chic as badass – were outfitted in multi-textured ensembles of leather skins, grafted and constructed into perfection. Each uniform consisted of blacks and featured a headdress of various shapes made of coarse bristle-like materials in a black-to-white gradient. Pieces like a tone-on-tone riding pant and an asymmetrical cowl-collar, double-breasted sweater jacket were paired with a futuristic wedge, supplied by John Fluevog, and ribbed knit arm candy; buckles and zips galore. Other astounding pieces include a wide-weave, ribbed knit shawl hoodie and a jacket with longhair fur shoulders; of which I could barely take my eyes off.
Concluding Skingraft‘s LA Fashion Week was an after party, March 13, 2011, as well as a party to celebrate the boutique’s 2nd anniversary, March 16, 2011.
