Spring 2011 Fashion Trend: Denim
Designers have got the blues this spring. Denim has been revamped and reworked for everything from shirts and skirts to even handbags.
You can stock up on new jeans to keep up with the trend at The Blue Jeans Bar in Santa Monica. Over forty premier denim labels–Seven, Paige, James Jeans among the repertoire–are kept ‘on tap’ for a near-private shopping experience in a comfortable setting. The Blue Jeans Bar is located at 1409 Montana Ave., Santa Monica, 310.656.7898.
Gucci, Prada, and Lanvin–all have stocked their shelves with denim handbags. My personal fave is the ‘Sweet Charity Denim Bag’ by Christian Louboutin. The black leather trim and studs exude more ‘Sex in the City’ than cowgirl vibe.
It’s that down-home cowgirl vibe though, that is so great about denim. It has the ability to loosen stiffness by lending a laid-back casual flair to even classic traditional pieces. Take for example, the Black Sweet Denim blazer – as interpreted by Acne. Skip the matching pant. The blazer alone, cinched at the waist with a sparkly skinny belt and a romantic frock beneath, works for the office or a daytime date. Don’t forget the chunky heels. Glam it up for evening: cuff up the sleeves, pair with skinny pants and layer on long whimsical necklaces in silver and pewter tones.
Sick of the same old brands? Here’s something to look forward to: Private Stock Denim for men (let’s hope a women’s line is in the works) are crafted from selvedge Japanese denim and rare indigo dyes. This affordable line of luxury denim just launched last week and is available locally at American Rag. American Rag et Cie. is located at 150 South La Brea Avenue, Los Angeles 323.935.3154.
