Boston Gets A Sweet Taste Of New York Today With Magnolia Bakery’s Faneuil Hall Opening
The Boston/New York rivalry is officially over. At least when it comes to confections.
Today, Magnolia Bakery, the bakery made famous when it debuted on ‘Sex in the City,’ is opening its first Boston location in Quincy Market.
To celebrate, Magnolia Bakery has rolled out a sweet specialty treat to debut its Boston haute spot – the Boston Cream Pie Banana Pudding, only found here. Their famous dessert comes complete with layers of vanilla pudding, vanilla wafers, bananas and chocolate fudge. (They will be giving away small containers of Boston Cream Pie Banana Pudding to the first 50 customers with a purchase from March 29 to April 5).

The Boston bakery will also offer everything from cupcakes, cookies and mini cheesecakes to their famous banana pudding, fudgy brownies, magic cookie bars and fruit-filled pies.
Before becoming Magnolia Bakery’s Chief Baking Officer, Bobbie Lloyd was personal chef to designer Calvin Klein. She also worked for restaurant visionary Danny Meyer at the famed Union Square Café, and honed her management skills at Prix Fixe, The Screening Room, Au Café, and Tribeca Grill.
Since then, she has been spotted as a judge on Season Four of ‘Next Great Baker’ and guest judge on ‘Cupcake Wars,’ and can be seen regularly on ‘The Today Show.’
Lloyd actually has some ties to the Boston area. Although she was born and raised in Chicago, she moved to Boston to study at a cooking school, Modern Gourmet, headed up by renowned French chef Madeleine Kamman. After graduation, she opened as co-owner American Accent restaurant in Brookline, Massachusetts. Today, at Magnolia Bakery, Lloyd will introduce new seasonal menu items that were inspired by her family’s recipes.
Other than New York City, Magnolia Bakery also has locations in Los Angeles, Chicago, Mexico City, Seoul, Dubai, Riyadh, Abu Dhabi, Kuwait City and Doha.
Magnolia Bakery’s Boston location is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday.
