Quick Hits: 3 Spots To Catch The Solar Eclipse In New York
As you may have heard, on August 21, 2017 all of North America will be experiencing a total eclipse of the sun. This total solar eclipse will stretch from Lincoln Beach, Oregon to Charleston, South Carolina and naturally, people will be having viewing parties and celebrations in anticipation of the rare event. The solar eclipse begins in NYC at 1:23 p.m, peaking at 2:44 p.m and ending by 4 p.m. Here are three places where you can enjoy the eclipse if you’re in New York City.
Hudson Jane
If you plan to be in Brooklyn for the eclipse, head to the newly opened all-day café Hudson Jane in Fort Greene to pick up some sustenance for the viewing. Hudson Jane will be offering a $14 to-go special for those watching the eclipse at nearby Fort Greene Park. Included in the special will be Valancy Jane’s Vegan BLT with eggplant “bacon,” tomato and lettuce on Bien Cuit’s seed & grain Pullman along with house favorite Relax and Recover golden milk with turmeric, ginger and Oatly milk (vegan milk made from oats and water) served hot or cold.
Lovage Rooftop
Situated 37 floors above ground in Manhattan, the trendy Lovage Rooftop will be hosting a viewing party from 12 to 5 PM. Lovage has a view of the Empire State Building, Statue of Liberty, Freedom Tower, and Hudson River and is sure to be a spectacular view of the solar eclipse. Cost is $12, and it includes a pair of solar glasses and a special cocktail, the “Solar Eclipse of My Heart.”
1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge
Brooklyn’s newest trendy hotel has some of the most beautiful, panoramic views of the city. Head to 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge’s rooftop and bar, where they will be hosting an eclipse-viewing party for the ages. Admission will be $35 and includes a pair of (very necessary) eclipse glasses, lobster rolls, and a special “Frozen Eclipse” cocktail with gin, Aperol, and passion fruit.
