Swire Gives $600,000 Towards Making the Miami Underline a Reality
Swire Properties celebrated its recent $600,000 donation to The Underline by hosting a cocktail reception at the new EAST, Miami Hotel, Swire’s shiny new jewel adjacent to the Brickell City Centre. The reception celebrated Swire’s donation as well as the unveiling of four temporary art pieces and a $2 million chef from the Miami-Dade County Legislative Delegation. The event drew more than 200 supporters who are excited about the project, which promises to transform the underutilized land below Miami’s Metrorail into an iconic 10-mile linear park, in the spirit of New York City’s High Line park. This will turn undesirable space into a world-class urban trail and living art.
Attendees include a mix of developers, city officials and artists, including Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez, State Representative Jose Felix “Pepi” Diaz and Senator Miguel Diaz de la Portilla, and many other business and civic leaders. Notable attendees included Claire Laverty, Meg Daly, Yolanda and Jeff Berkowitz, Brandi Reddick, Carole and Oscar Seikaly, Soledad and Justin Lowe, Ugo Colombo, Carlos Rosso, Anthony Spinello, Naomi Fisher, Vivian Del Rio, Linda Levy Goldberg, Stephen Owens and Bhakti Baxter.
Swire’s significant donation will be earmarked for the construction of the Brickell portion of The Underline that will seamlessly connect with Swire’s renovation of the Eighth Street Metromover station and surrounding green space, which is located adjacent to the 5.4-million-square foot Brickell City Centre.
It wasn’t just Swire that made a grand gesture, there was a $2 million check from the Miami-Dade County Legislative Delegation, and the unveiling of four temporary art pieces that will be installed at the project and a confirmation of support from the Knight Foundation which recently awarded $250,000 to The Underline.
