It was a haute scene at Ken Fulk‘s loft, where a cocktail reception for painter Darren Waterston took place on March 19 to celebrate Waterston’s Filthy Lucre, a contemporary re-imagining of James McNeill Whistler’s 1876 decorative masterpiece Harmony in Blue and Gold: The Peacock Room. The installation will be on view at the Arthur M. Sackler Gallery at the Smithsonian Institution from May 16, 2015 through December 2016. Among those at the bash: Fulk, Colin Bailey, Joy Venturini Bianchi, Eric Petsinger, Mary Beth Shimmon and Kevin Sessums, who will be at Books Inc. in the Castro on March 24th to read and sign copies of his new hit book I Left It on the Mountain. Guests sipped tasty, specialty cocktails by Rye on the Road, nibbled on bites from Foxtail and enjoyed 60s soul music played by DJ Carnita of Hard French. It was a homecoming of sorts for Waterston. “My mother lives in Half Moon Bay so I go there as much as I can,” he told Haute Living. “I’m a California boy. I live in New York now but this is still home.”
