Gwyneth Paltrow isn’t having her Hollywood ending.

The actress and husband of more than 10 years, Chris Martin, sadly announced their separation this week.

The couple broke the news via her lifestyle website, Goop, in a post entitled “Conscious Uncoupling.”

Paltrow and Martin began wrote: “It is with hearts full of sadness that we have decided to separate. We have been working hard for well over a year, some of it together, some of it separated, to see what might have been possible between us, and we have come to the conclusion that while we love each other very much we will remain separate.”

They added: “We are, however, and always will be a family, and in many ways we are closer than we have ever been,” the letter continued. “We are parents first and foremost, to two incredibly wonderful children and we ask for their and our space and privacy to be respected at this difficult time. We have always conducted our relationship privately, and we hope that as we consciously uncouple and coparent, we will be able to continue in the same manner.”

The two have been together since 2003 and are the parents to two children, Apple and Moses. They met in 2002 while Martin’s band, Coldplay, was on its world tour promoting the album A Rush of Blood to the Head. They married on Dec. 5, 2003, at the Santa Barbara County clerk’s office without friends and family present.

They had recently made a temporary move to LA and were most recently seen looking happy at Sean Penn‘s Help Haiti benefit back in January.
