Steven Soderbergh To Direct Off-Broadway Play Starring Chloe Grace Moretz About Gun Violence
Celebrated film director Steven Soderbergh and actress Chloe Grace Moretz are coming together for a new off-Broadway drama entitled The Library about a topic that has sadly become all too common in this day in age—gun violence.
“The Library is about one of the most disturbing and important issues of our times,” Public Theater artistic director Oskar Eustis told The Hollywood Reporter. “This production promises to be an extraordinary event.”
Written by Scott Z. Burns, the chilling, yet touching play is centered around a young woman (Moretz) that survives a deadly high school shooting and struggles to describe the tragic events to her family and authorities.
“I wanted to write a play about the stories we tell each other in the face of calamity—the pretty lies and the brutal truths,” Burns revealed. “This is something Steven and I have discussed over the last decade while making movies. What is the value of truth? What is the cost of a lie?”
Previews will begin at New York City’s Public Theater on March 25. The Library will officially open on April 15 and run until April 27.
