The San Francisco Symphony has just announced the line-up for its 2012-13 season, which will run from September 5 through July 2 and include a traditional season-opening gala on September 19.

Other highlights of the season include works by Beethoven, Leonard Bernstein, the Symphony’s premiere of Berio’s Endrucke,” the first concert performances by an orchestra of the complete “West Side Story,” a orchestral arrangement of Debussy songs for soprano Renee Fleming and a guest appearance by conductor Semyon Bychkov.

The traditional season-opening gala will take place on September 19 to accommodate Music Director Michael Tilson Thomas’ tour schedule with the London Symphony Orchestra. Though details have yet to be finalized, Thomas spoke publically about a multimedia project for the “Missa solemnis” and said, “Beethoven worked on the piece for so long and it includes his responses to early music and to the most radical new ideas. Everything is written over everything else. It’s like a Rothko painting.”
